Now here is a Grail double whammy! A large inked Garry Leach Miracleman illustration, and the smaller A4 pencil sketch done by Alan Davis.
Garry enlarged Alan's sketch, and then repencilled and inked his own version. Garry's Miracleman was based on a young Paul Newman, so he redrew the figure to be more his style.
This larger Inked version was started in 2005, as an inking tutorial ( I had just got my first work with 2000ad, and had a panic attack about inking, so Garry resolved to teach me ) He demonstarted brush and dip pen inking on the MM for me to watch as he did it.
About a year and a half later he finished it, in between paid work, and I bought the 2 pieces from him, as it was a Reminder/Thank You for my art lesson! These have spent the last 20 years forgotten about in a folio, and I rediscovered it earlier this year.
Garry Leach's inked piece is 50.5 x 31 cm on heavy smooth watercolour paper
Alan Davis's is on 30.5 x 22cm on heavy art paper
£ 17,500 pounds sterling for the two pieces.
